About Me

My story

I have always been interested in health and nutrition, ever since I was a very little girl. I swam and played tennis competitively when I was younger, I watched what I ate, although probably not as much as I should have, and generally did my best to be healthy, which at the time meant maintaining a weight I was comfortable with. However, I have suffered from mild acne, psoriasis, and a low immune system for years. It has not been until recently that I made the connection between my food habits and these other issues. I now realize that are intimately intertwined.

 

I began thinking about nutrition in a new way when I had my first child.  All of sudden, I had to think about what I was going to feed him, and I wanted to do it right. I was responsible for another human being and I knew that along with all the other things I had to give to my child, a good diet was crucial. Many years have passed since then,  and I’ve learned that balance is the key.  Health is a lifestyle, not a diet.  And our life should be FUN, which means I don’t believe in deprivation or fads.  We should not obsess about weight.  We need to focus on nourishment, and if we do this, slowly and surely, everything else falls into place; weight, skin, digestion, energy levels, sleep, immunity, you name it.  I believe in eating well and yes, having that chocolate cake or glass of wine once in awhile, as you wish. I have personally gone through a transformation in my relationship with food, and I know that with guidance and support, everyone can do this.

 

As for my career path, I worked in telecoms for 15 years, then gave up my desk job to become an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and Nutritionist.  I was born in Baghdad, raised in the United States, and now have been living in Turkey with my husband for over 20 years. I am almost 50 years old and have three children, ages 20, 18, and 12. I run half-marathons twice a year–which requires me to pay special attention to my nutrition– and have founded a food delivery program, A Tasteful Plan, based in Istanbul that provides fresh, ready-to-eat meals that are nutritious and delicious to help people follow a healthier lifestyle when they don’t have time to prepare food on their own.
